Three Reasons You Should Make The Switch to Vegan Skincare
You’ve been hearing all about veganism, from celebrities like Beyonce and Billie Eilish urging everyone to make the switch to a vegan lifestyle. Maybe you’ve been doing Meatless Mondays and you’re looking to reduce your animal consumption further or maybe you’ve been a proud vegan for years. The exciting news for you is that there is another way to reduce your animal consumption and that’s through your skincare! There are several excellent reasons to make the switch and I hope the next few points will give you some (plant based!) food for thought.
1. Vegan Skincare For Your Health
Everyday, we’re surrounded by thousands of toxic chemicals called free radicals that can lead to a whole host of health issues. There has been an increase in autoimmune illnesses, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's and many others. Traditional skincare makes use of many different chemicals to prolong the lifespan of their products which are being placed directly onto your skin and being absorbed into your bloodstream! With vegan skincare, typically organic, natural materials are used in these products. Plus, you can’t forget the skin and health nurturing vitamins and antioxidants that are found in these all-natural ingredients!
Now, these products may have a shorter lifespan but that’s actually a really great thing. Just like with your diet, the healthiest goal should always be to be using the freshest and most natural ingredients to nourish your skin. It’s the largest organ in your body and also the most visible sign of your state of health and honestly, you deserve to be the healthiest version of yourself!
2. Vegan Skincare For the Animals
One of the reasons many people turn to veganism, and specifically vegan skincare, is from a love of animals. Not just cute cats and dogs, but all animals. Over 100 million animals are abused in labs in the USA alone for the sake of cosmetic testing, which is a number you can help reduce by choosing to purchase only cruelty-free, organic and vegan skincare. The same products you use to look like your most fabulous self can make you feel great inside too, in the knowledge that nobody had to suffer for them! Trust me, it feels great.
3. Vegan Skincare For the Environment
The use of animal products in skincare absolutely has an impact on the environment. Commonly used animal products include lanolin, beeswax, tallow and squalene. Lanolin, derived from sheep, has recently been found to have some form of pesticides in it. Keeping large populations of honeybees for beeswax drives out wild bees, which are necessary for pollination of plants. Squalene is shark liver oil, which disrupts the natural balance in our oceans. Of course, there are many comparable plant based products out there that will leave your skin just as soft, clean and youthful without the huge impact on the environment, like carnauba wax, vegetable oils and coconut milk! Our Nourishing Coconut Milk and Aloe Vera Mask is amazing and exfoliating!
Hopefully you have all the information you need now to make an informed decision on whether to make the jump into vegan skincare. I promise, the animals, the environment and your skin will thank you. If you’re ready to make the leap, check out our Shop for more amazing cruelty-free skincare!
